WEEK 7

PROJECT IDEA:

All my work leading up to now has guided my ideas and views which has opened my mind to new opportunities. My plan for this project is to use fashion photography as a exhibition idea and then to use photographs I have taken / will take in relation to this subject. Regarding design ideas I have taken inspiration from various different designers such as Otl Aicher and stimulation from The Face magazine.

I intend to use black and white as a theme but also incorporate a splash of colour which would catch attention for a real poster. Blow is a selection of colours I may bring into practice. I have also been enjoying the look of a grainy vibe on photographs making them look vintage and old, but for now it is just a thought as I have yet to decide on a type front and I generally like to see how it looks together before fully deciding.

WORKSHOP:

Unfortunately, these photos didn't work for my design as the background blended with the foreground, where she's leaning on the playground equipment, therefore I will need to take new photographs with a plain background. I have booked the studio and camera to achieve this and have a model willing to help me out too. The use of a Wacom tablet helped me create an outline though, which I will use again once I have taken new photos.

READING:

From Making is Creating - Chapter 5
  • Happiness studies - Money is a typical thought when it comes to thinking about how to be more happy. Through the media in the 60's, celebrities would advertise the fact of not needing money to be happy which is a form of propaganda.
  • 'If an individual became rich, they would only be happier if their position was reasonably unique, if everyone became much better-off, they wouldn't become much happier.'
  •  I find the fact of people moving in and out of California very interesting as it'd such a popular place and everyone knows it. It just goes to show how it's not everything everyone always wants and there's no happiness in that.
  • When you really look at happiness you realise that it's not about the materialistic things in life, it's about how your mental self is holding up. 'It seems that happiness, regardless of other factors, means you live longer.'
  • Family relationships, financial situation, work, community and friends, health, personal freedom and personal values are the 'Big Seven factors affecting happiness' by Richard Laynard.
  • Family, community and well-being are the most important things to achieve happiness in the end, "A society cannot flourish without some sense of shared purpose. The current pursuit of self-realisation will not work. If your sole duty is to achieve the best for yourself, life becomes just too stressful, too lonely - you are set up to fail. Instead, you need to feel you exist for something larger, and that very thought takes off some of the pressure." Richard Laynard.
